Liu Qi, former Party chief of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, was elected governor of Jiangxi province on Wednesday after the former governor, Lu Xinshe, was appointed the province's Party chief in June.

Liu, 57, was elected governor during a plenary meeting of the provincial people's congress on Wednesday, according to the provincial government's website.

A native of Yishui, Shandong province, Liu was appointed deputy Party chief of Jiangxi in February.

He was appointed deputy governor and acting governor of the province by the standing committee of the provincial people's congress on July 8.



Liu Qi elected as Jiangxi governor

Liu graduated from Zhejiang University with a bachelor's degree in engineering and polymer materials in 1980.

After graduation, he became a dispatcher at Quzhou Chemical Industry Co and in 1992 became general manager of the company.

He was appointed the deputy head of the provincial department of petrochemical industry in Zhejiang in January 1996.

He became mayor of Wenzhou in 2003 and director of the provincial reform and development commission in 2006.

In 2008, he was elected deputy chief of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang provincial people's congress.
