GUIYANG - Li Chengyun, former vice governor of southwest China's Sichuan province, stood trial Friday on charges of taking bribes.

The people's procuratorate of Liupanshui City in southwest China's Guizhou province alleged that Li took advantage of his posts in Sichuan between 2001 and 2012 to assist entities and individuals in commercial bids and real estate development.

Prosecutors said Li accepted bribes worth 6.36 million yuan (about 920,000 US dollars) directly or through his wife.

Li made a statement to the court in which he pled guilty and expressed remorse.

The court has adjourned to decide on sentencing.
