SAIC General Motors Corp., in a bid to exploit China's fast-growing electric vehicle market, will start selling a plug-in hybrid version of the Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan in China this year.
The joint venture between General Motors and SAIC Motor Corp. also plans to market two conventional hybrid models, the Buick LaCrosse sedan and Chevrolet XL.
All three models were displayed at the Beijing auto show last month, and all three will be produced in China.
The CT6 carries a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine and a lithium-ion battery pack. The LaCrosse and Chevrolet XL each are fitted with a 1.8-liter direct injection gasoline engine and a small lithium-ion battery pack.
Shanghai GM has not disclosed prices of the three models.
Aside from the three vehicles, Shanghai GM plans to roll out at least seven conventional and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2016 to 2020.
